What to Expect? All tours depart from Cann River, East Gippsland Victoria, at 2.30pm. You are met with a picnic lunch at Cann River, served from 1.30pm onwards, before our departure into the Park. An easy 6klm walk down to the Tamboon Inlet where we camp for the first night, warms us up for the next couple of days. With late afternoon nibbles along the Tamboon River, your first evening is replete with a chef-prepared, camp-oven dinner beside the fire and the picturesque sunset over the water. Day two’s adventure continues with a hearty breakfast before our guided pack-free walk to our next river campsite for the evening. Armed with daypacks and a gourmet picnic lunch, the day’s walk is approximately 18 kms and will take about 6 hours at a leisurely pace. This walk takes in spectacular forest fire trails, beaches, isolated headlands and the Point Hicks Lighthouse, offering spectacular vistas along the way. We finish the day with a down hill stroll to our second camp by the Thurra River. Day three’s walk is approximately 15klms and takes us over the famous and magnificent sand dune system and down into the Thurra River. Wading back through the river to the entrance, we follow the beach and headlands to the grounds of the Lighthouse where we stop for a billy tea and lunch. After lunch, we climb the magnificent Point Hicks Tower with an historic tour presented by the resident Lighthouse Keepers. A short track and rock-hop walk from the Lighthouse to the wreck of the Saros, whose fate ended on the rocks on Christmas Eve 1937, ends our day before returning back to camp by the fire trail. On our last morning, we finish our stay with a short beach walk over to the Mueller River, returning via fire trails with magnificent views toward Point Hicks Lighthouse. We depart camp mid morning, returning to Cann River by 11.30am. We leave you with a packed lunch for your journey home. |
