|
Departs every Monday (excluding School Holidays).Per head $225 incl. GSTTo the south of Eden, stretches approx. 150kms of almost completely unsettled coast. From Ben Boyd National Park in SE NSW through to Croajingolong National Park in Victoria, lies one of the most pristine coastlines in Australia. From Green Cape Lighthouse, the most southern tower in NSW, to Boyd's tower, one of Australia's greatest romantic ruins. Oz Style Adventure's “Light to Light” walk takes in 30kms of this spectacular coastline over two days, with easy to moderate walking. About Ben Boyd?Ben Boyd is renowned for its colourful and strikingly rugged coastline. It is home to at least 21 plant species of conservation significance and provides habitat for 26 threatened fauna species. Ben Boyd National Park was named after a man who was ahead of his time. A man who had visions of building a city that would stand as the capital of the colony. One could say a former day equivalent of some of Australia’s entrepreneurs of the ‘80’s. Although he ultimately failed in his pursuit, Boyd helped shape the history of whaling and pastoralism in Australia. Boyd’s Tower, at the northern end of our walk, was never acknowledged as an official Lighthouse, and was rarely lit. It is one of Australia’s greatest romantic ruins, beautifully constructed from Sydney sandstone and remains in tact in form and fabric. At the southern end, lies Green Cape Tower- the starting point of our walk. Green Cape was one of the tallest concrete structures in NSW at the time, and remains the second largest tower in the state. What to Expect? Not only is it steeped in history, our “Light to Light” walk follows the strikingly red and rugged cliff lines contrasted by the sapphire blue waters of the area, which makes this a spectacular trail. Pickups start from 7.30am from your accommodation, or a pre-arranged location. Our walk commences at the Green Cape Lighthouse complex, with views over Disaster Bay and the coastline all the way to the sand dunes of the Cape Howe Wilderness area, just over the Victorian border. A short walk from the Lighthouse takes us to the cemetery of the Lyee-Moon, one of Australia’s most famous shipwrecks, where sadly 76 lives were lost. With tales of the sea and life at the tower, we head off on our first day’s trek, through extensive heathlands, temperate rain forests, and sheltered coves and beaches, where we stop for lunch, afternoon tea, and swims along the way. The total walk covers approx. 17kms, over a 6-7 hour period at a leisurely pace, and takes us just over half way, from one Tower to the next. Our first day ends at the beautiful campgrounds of Saltwater Creek, where the wildlife is abundant. Camped in luxury safari style tents, you’re replenished with a hearty camp oven dinner, and poetry by the campfire. After a cooked breakfast, day two takes us on a steady undulating walk, hugging the rugged coastline, through Heathland and Mellalucca woodlands and open bays and beaches. Covering approx. 14kms, over a 5 hour period at a leisurely pace, we stop for a gourmet picnic lunch and afternoon tea in the sheltered coves of Mowary and Leatherjacket Bay, with plenty of opportunities for a swim along the way. Our walk finishes at the majestic Boyds Tower with a cold drink and cheese plate over looking Twofold Bay and the township of Eden, before dropping you back to your accommodation. |
